Charles "Woody" Davis' Obituary
Charles “Woody” Davis was born on the 17th of April, 1941, in Morrilton, Arkansas. He entered into rest on the 17th of December, 2023. The number “17” held great significance for Woody throughout his life, beginning with the day of his birth. He was married to the love of his life, Pat Davis, 46 years ago on the 17th of July, and he returned home on the 17th of December in Valley Center, CA.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat Davis, his three daughters: Kim Kortschak, Pam Cunningham, and Debbie Herbertz, nine grandchildren: Candace, Kristen, Meghan, Kristy, Adam, Timmy, Amber, Matthew, Andrew, and twelve great-grandchildren with another on the way. In Heaven, he is now reunited with his daughter, Kathy and grandson, Jacob.
In his youth, Woody had an enduring passion for football, which he played in high school and continued into college. Even after hanging up his cleats, his love of the game never waned. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, he named his beloved dog “KC” as a tribute to his favorite team.
As an adult, Woody remained active in other sports, including golf and bowling. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years, where he participated in league bowling and advanced to the state championship. He also enjoyed casinos and owned several thoroughbred race horses.
Woody was a successful businessman. When he founded D & R Industries in Santa Fe Springs in 1977, the business thrived under his leadership for over three decades. After 36 years at the helm, he retired to Valley Center, turning his sights to avocado farming. Embracing country life in retirement, Woody nonetheless retained his innovative spirit. Adopting new high-density planting methods, he substantially boosted grove yields. Striving for efficiency across his farm, Woody worked to make the entire operation self-sustainable.
Woody was a BIG man in every sense - big dreams, big personality, and big optimism. He fully embraced life in all its richness. His devotion to marriage, family, work and leisure inspires us all to live our best lives. We will deeply miss our beloved “Papa” - his warm bear hugs, infectious laugh and wisdom. His unforgettable spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
