Carolyn Ruth Harter's Obituary
We mourn the loss of Carolyn Harter, who passed away on August 27th, 2015, at Silverado Memory Care Assisted Living in Escondido, CA at the age of 83. She enriched our lives with her many talents, her love of church and family, and her willingness to help others.
Carolyn was born November 8, 1931, in Rochester, NY to Rev. Donald and Charlotte Head. She had many interests in life. She was a Girl Scout Leader, loved her work with Avon, becoming a District Leader in San Diego, CA. She also worked for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) where she retired after many years of service.
Carolyn was a longtime member of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the RBCPC Thrift Store for many years.
She was an avid gardener and cook, and loved to go on cruises and take long walks in her neighborhood. You could often find her in the evening, sitting on her front porch - her roses blooming around her – wine glass in hand, sharing a kind word or happy hello to anyone that passed by. In her younger years, she was active in bowling, tennis, sewing and even synchronized swimming. Carolyn’s ready smile and willingness to help others will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Carolyn is survived by children Chris (Mike) Neitzey, Debbie (Ken) Meienberg, Leah Stewart, Laura Wilson, Mike Wilson, Tina (Dusty) Sandoval, Mark (Brenda) Harter, and James (Gail) Harter. She is further survived by 19 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harter, her parents, her brother, Norman Head, and her son, Steve Wilson.
Services will be held Monday, September 14th, at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, 17010 Pomerado Road, San Diego at 11:00 am. A reception will follow afterwards at the church to celebrate her life.
A private interment, for family only, will follow at 2:30 pm at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr., San Diego, CA.
Memorials may be directed to Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church Thrift Store or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
