Carol Ann Jones' Obituary
While we grieve, Heaven is celebrating the arrival of Carol Jones, 85, who passed early Tuesday morning, August 22, 2023 in Escondido, California.
Carol was born March 18, 1938, in idyllic Sugarcreek, Ohio, to Clifford and Ina Renner. Fifteen years younger than her only sibling, she was unexpected and a preemie at 3 pounds. But the Lord had great plans for Carol. Always tiny, in her He created an enormous light for the world.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her agreed that Carol was the kindest, gentlest, and most forgiving person they’d ever known. She never met a stranger. A mom and grandmother to not only her own family, she was also one to those who had none. She had a ready smile and an incredible love for people, and prayed for everyone she knew. Not a day went by that she didn’t do something special for someone.
Her life truly began after graduating high school in 1956, when she came to Escondido and lived with her sister for two years while attending San Diego State University. She returned to Ohio and graduated from Heidleburg College in 1961. A subsequent year teaching in Cleveland led to a move to San Diego, where she taught kindergarten in SDUSD from 1962 to 1969. She married Robert Jones in 1965, retired from teaching to raise their children, and moved to Escondido in 1971. She continued to teach at a Christian preschool and substitute at Light and Life while her kids attended school.
A member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church, she made close, enduring friendships there. Active in Sunday School, and a life group, she also served on the memorial service team. She loved her monthly Bunko games, which she created for fun with her friends from church. A
sewing hobby not only brought her joy, but she made numerous dresses for children in Africa and sewed costumes for her daughter’s dance team and her grandniece’s dance shows.
Carol also enjoyed cruises and traveling, and shopping for fun at the thrift stores, but Carol’s heart was her family, and she spent much cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and nieces.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Jones of Escondido, her children, Matt (Sara) Jones of Valley Center, Meg (Todd) Warren of New Caney, Texas, and six grandchildren, Timothy Knight, Daniel Knight, Andrew Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Tierra Murguia, and Todd Warren Jr. She was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Ina Renner, and her sister, Jean Slivkoff.
Carol will live forever in our hearts. We are comforted that she is in the arms of our Heavenly Father, who has promised: “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:22
In lieu of flowers, please contribute in Carol’s name to St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children.
