I apologize for writing this memory two years late, but I only just now learned of Gen Hoffman's passing. I met him in Okinawa sometime in the 1970s when I was around the age of 12 and I think he was a Colonel at the time. He came to our family's home for Pesach and immediately made a huge impression on me, for many reasons, not least of which was the fact that we shared almost exactly the same name. Over the years, I had occasional contact with him because e-mail intended for him would somehow land in my inbox, so I'd forward it with my best wishes. I was his Intelligence chief in 3d Bn 1st Marines in Korea 1954. I can still hear him playing beautiful music from his tent at night. So pleasant to hear in a lonely place. I have a warm heart for the General always

I was fortunate to meet the General at the Ranch House in Camp Pendleton shortly before he retired from the Corps. He was a tremendous host, and treated us with the music on his horn, the same one he used on the Canal. My condolances to the family, particularly to his son Bill. I was Bill's XO when he was CO of Lima 3/7.
