Calvin "Tom" Wesley Calvin's Obituary
Long time Escondido resident, Thomas "Tom" Wesley Calvin entered his eternal life on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 67 after a long battle with COPD. He spent his final days at home.
Tom, the oldest of eight children, was born in San Francisco, CA moving to Escondido as a young teen. He spent his life as a proud Teamster in Local 36, driving rock trucks, water trucks, belly dumps and various other construction vehicles. He was a strong union supporter, a union steward, a strike captain in the only Teamster strike in San Diego County and very hard worker. He served as a commission member on the City of Escondido Housing Commission.
Before becoming ill, he could be found fixing cars, doing yead work, woodworking, as well as taking his family off-roading in Ocotillo Wells. He was also an avid Nascar fan.
Tom is survived by Cherie, his wife of 47 years; two daughters; Robin Ford of Escondido, CA., and Carrie Higgins of Temecula, CA; as well as six grandchildren - ages 2 - 25 years. He is also survived by six siblings and 13 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and one brother.
