Betty Allen Witman's Obituary
Betty Witman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully in her home on thursday October 4, 2012.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Nessmith; mother Gladys Bird Allen; and father, Jones Allen. She grew up in a family of sisters on a Georgia Pecan plantation. Her mother was a teacher and made sure all her daughters went to college. Betty was born in Bulloch County, Georgia to parents Gladys and Jones Allen. Betty graduated from Georgia State College for women in 1949-50. She worked as a clothing buyer for Davidson Department Store in Augusta, Georgia. She met her First Lieutenant, Bill Witman, at a USO dance in Georgia on a blind date. She traveled three months later, by herself, to marry him while he was serving at For In 1973, they moved to Escondido to be closer to their farm in the San Pasqual Valley. Betty had an adventurous spirit and learned how to ski and scuba dive at the age of 55. She and Bill traveled all over the world skiing, scuba diving, sightseeing, in Betty is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill Witman; daughter, Karen Woods and son-in-law, Larry; daughter, Amy Cook and husband,Ken; son, Matt Witman and wife, Kari; grandson, Tom Witman; sister, Hilda Battle and husband, C.T.; sister, Barbara Lars In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Church or your favorite charity in Betty's name would be appreciated.
