Betty June Verhoeven's Obituary
Betty June Verhoeven
February 3, 1948 - January 19, 2025
Betty June Verhoeven (Dykstra), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2025, at the age of 76. Betty was born on February 3, 1948, in Artesia, California, to Dick and Gertie Dykstra.
Betty married William Verhoeven on September 19, 1969. This past summer, they celebrated 55 years of marriage together. They were blessed with four children: Kimberly Verhoeven Parker (Rob), Brian Verhoeven (Sarah), Kristin Verhoeven Brown (Troy), and Justin Verhoeven. Betty was also a proud and loving Oma to nine grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.
Betty was an active and devoted member of her church community, where she served in various roles over the years. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 121, provided her with great peace as she approached the end of her earthly life.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Gertie Dykstra. She is survived by her husband, William; her children, Kim, Brian, Kristin, and Justin; her brother, Pete; her sisters, Susan, Joanne, and Geraline; and her beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn, William, Mikayla, Madyson, Bryce, Brayden, Quentin, Cayson, and Jenna.
Betty was known for her vibrant, feisty spirit and larger-than-life personality. Despite facing numerous health challenges in recent years, her strength and determination never wavered and it was this fierce, tenacious spirit that kept her going. After a brave battle with pneumonia, she was welcomed into heaven and reunited with her parents, whom she missed dearly. While her family will miss her deeply, they take comfort in knowing she is free from pain and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus. Betty will be lovingly remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to family, and her strong, charismatic nature.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. A memorial service will take place on Friday, January 31, at 11:00 AM at the United Reformed Church, 1864 N Broadway, Escondido, CA 92026.
