Betty Rugeley Lewis' Obituary
Betty Rugeley Lewis, 86, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at her home in Escondido with her family by her side. She was born January 12, 1928 in Bay City, Texas to Lee and Irma Rugeley.
In 1945, Betty graduated from Massey Business College and shortly after began a job as a secretary at Bay City First National Bank. In 1972, she graduated from Palomar College with an Instructional Associate degree and worked for the Escondido Elementary School District for 17 years.
Betty was active in numerous areas of Escondido First United Methodist Church, including the catering team, Susanna Circle, Nominations Committee, Membership and Evangelism Committee and Lamplighters. She also served as Director of Lay Evangelism, ushered the 10:45 a.m. service, was a Confirmation advisor, and taught Sunday School for many years. Betty was the President of Reciprocity for Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO) for a year and participated in their philanthropy from 1999 to present.
Betty is survived by her husband, Henry Lewis; children; Janet (Fred) Miller, Kim (Loren) Lewis, and Steven Lewis; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas; niece Leanne Silva; nephew, Trey Rugeley; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Legacy fund at the First United Methodist Church.
