Bernard "Ben" John Wier's Obituary
Ben, 84 who was an Aerospace Engineer in career and golfer in passion, passed away on January 27, 2012, in San Diego. Ben was born in Buffalo, NY, on August 12, 1927. After a brief tour in the Navy, he attended the University of Buffalo where he earned a degree in engineering. Ben came to San Diego in 1956 to join General Dynamics. His early days with General Dynamics were as a test engineer in the early development of the Atlas Rocket. His career progressed to include positions as Launch Conductor at Vandenberg AFB where o In 2011, Ben was given a lifetime achievement award from the AIAA. His real passion after retirement was traveling the world and golfing. He could be found at Stoneridge Country Club at least 3 to 4 days per week on the golf course. When not on the gol Ben is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann; brother, Stanley Wier; daughter, Carol Close; sons, Brian Wier, Mark Wier, and Benjamin Wier; nine grandchildren; and one great grandson.
