Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend
Ben (87) passed away peacefully on Good Friday, following his long battle with dementia. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia; his son, Ronny (Debbie) of Escondido; his son-in-love, Gary Fehrenbach (Deb); and his sister-in-love, Janelle Flores (Reynaldo). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beneta Fehrenbach (1999). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His children will remember him as being fun, strong in body and character, an avid hunter, and a great joke and story teller. Ben served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years (1947-76) and during his service was on the USS Midway (1948-49), where he got his first of many tattoos (the first being the USS Midway!). He also worked at the San Diego Wild Animal Park for 22 years (1972-94) and served with the San Pasqual Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hillary and all the caregivers in Heartland Village at Las Villas Del Norte, whose kindness and dedication will not be forgotten; and Vitas Hospice for their sincere and warm comfort and support. Ben will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakhill Memorial Park in Escondido. There will be a Memorial Service in his honor at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at North Coast Church, San Marcos/Escondido Campus. Viewing available at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary by appointment.
