Barbara L. Foucar's Obituary
On January 30, 2015 Barbara died from complications of Alzheimer’s with Al at her side. Barbara was born in Great Falls, Montana, the oldest child of Donald Rydell and Mary Strizich Rydell. She is survived by brother Joe (Beverly) and sister MaryLou (Mike). She had a wonderful upbringing in Great Falls and kept many lifelong friends, especially the “Jilts.”
Barbara met Al while she was in nurse’s training at Sacred Heart in Spokane, Washington. They married in 1952. Diane (Reg) and Suzanne (Jerry) were born in Montana and Donald in Arizona. The family moved to Escondido in 1962 and stayed.
Barbara worked as a real estate agent and found the house on the hill, but her occupation was wife and mother, at which she excelled. She also gave her time to various causes, including many years of service to the Palomar Family Counseling Center.
She was always a great reader and played bridge. In retirement she began to play Duplicate Bridge and met her goal of becoming a Life Master. She also took up golf and she and Al golfed at home and around the country with many friends and the “Roadrunners.”
Barbara had a dream of having a house in Seeley Lake, Montana which was also fulfilled in retirement. She and Al went to Seeley Lake for 25 summers and were happy to entertain friends and family. It was the site of many fabulous Fourth’s and so much fun. Her grandchildren were often present. Jonathan (Lindsey) Foucar-Szocki; Katy Foucar-Szocki; Amanda Huey; Alex Huey; Natalie Wood-Foucar; Camille Wood-Foucar and great grand Harper Grace Foucar-Szocki.
Barbara was a fun, fashionable, independent woman. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchild, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 7 at 4PM at Alhiser-Comer 225 S. Broadway Escondido, CA. Think pink, teal, blue and turquoise. Her ashes will be interred in Seeley Lake on June 30.
