Audrey Jean Gretel's Obituary
Beloved wife of Robert Gretel, passed into eternity near her home in Rancho Bernardo, California on August 30, 2009. She is survived by her husband Robert, their four children, Gayle Gretel Hutton, Mark Gretel, Janis Baumann and Eric Gretel, as well as grandchildren, Meghan Hutton, Adam Gretel, Kyle Gretel and great grandson, Jack Kettering.
Born Audrey Jean Muskett, in Detroit, Michigan, 1926, she grew to be a woman of great strength and courage who engaged life with joy, wonder and an abiding love for her family and the Earth in which she lived.
In 1941 her family returned to Detroit, Michigan from Holly, Michigan. She attended Detroit Western High School. Where she became an avid swimmer who competed for the school’s swim team. While there, she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Robert Gretel. Audrey and Robert were married April 12, 1947 and began their full and rewarding life together. After the birth of their fist daughter, Gayle, she and Robert moved to Inkster, Michigan and set up housekeeping among a cherished circle of friends. There, he Audrey discovered that she had a deep affinity for San Diego, California during a family visit in 1968 and, as her family grew and made their way into the wider world, she and Robert decided to explore a new life together in the new town. She delighted in During her final months, she was comforted by the love, support, frequent calls, e-mails and visits from her friends and family. Audrey’s philosophy of open engagement led her to believe that a life lived should be celebrated. As such, she declined to e Our family joins with you in celebrating this wonderful woman, her life and her loving contributions to us all. We will mourn her passing and miss her terribly, but will hold her in our hearts until we meet up with her again in the loving grace of God.
