Brought out the adventurous side of dad with Seth and Paige on a log ride!
Dad with me and my brothers in the 70s. Always somewhere outdoors - he loved golf, tennis his entire life and when he was younger surfing, skiing, hiking, and rock climbing. He really enjoyed gardening too.
A fierce competitor, Dad thrived in tennis, ping pong, and his beloved golf, often being the first to tee off at dawn. He played golf regularly well into his 80s and kept the scorecard from every round! At 89, we lifted weights at the gym and played pickle ball together.
As a kid, I have many fond memories with dad and the family driving to the mountains for hiking or skiing with the San Gregorio ski club and the Boy Scouts. Special memories of a 50 mile hike in Yosemite, as well as weekend trips. One backpack trip to Little Yosemite falls dad taught us how to hang our food in the trees so it was safe from the bears. He then taught us how to scare off the bears in the middle of the night with pots and pans and lots of yelling, since the bears already knew the "food in the trees trick".
Dad, Dave and I also had fun with remote control gliders that we built and flew together. We drove all over So Cal to fly them at Snake Hill (Malibu Canyon), Torrey Pines, and Pierce College. Recently he reminded me of a glider crash landing on Blacks Beach where I accidently learned about nude beaches at the age of 11:)
Bill joined our coffee group about 2 or 3 years ago bringing his genial affability and gentle good humor. He was always a good and caring listener, faithfully coming each Tuesday and Friday. Here’s a photo we took 3 months ago. We will miss him, his quiet humor and smile, a nice and good man.
