Veronica Noelle Meyers

December 23, 1925 - February 24, 2021

Our lovely and dearest mom Veronica passed to Heaven in daughter Joan's arms Feb 24, 2021 at 95 surrounded by prayers and love. She was the last in line of the Hress Family Legacy. Mom was born in 1925 in McAdoo, PA, the youngest of 6 children to John and Anna Hress. Mom was an LPN who worked 5 years at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia and later a Dental Assistant for a prestigious Dental Practice in NYC meeting several Heads of State. She loved Macy's, Nedicks hot dogs and watching the ice skaters from her window at Rockefeller Center. She loved attending Lincoln Design Institute in Philly which brought out her talents and love of beauty. Mom married our dad Stephen J. Penaskovic of Bayonne, NJ and had 5 children, Joan, Cynthia, Steve, Janice and Joyce. She had 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mom was widowed at 43 and struggled mightily bringing up the kids alone in Arizona. Those struggles gave us mom's determination and we became 3 Military Officers (Doctor, Nurse, Dietician) a Police Officer and Sheriff. Mom's greatest joy was traveling where she felt independent, strong and free. It healed her. Traveling often with daughter Joan, she visited Panama, Machu Pichu, Peru, Ecuador, Europe, Tahiti with daughter Janice, Great Wall of China, Egypt, and tours to the Ukraine. It made her forget the sadness of surviving 4 husbands who died from cancer and daughter Cynthia who passed at 59. Her beloved home in Escondido honored her life and those she loved. "I'm Home" she would say, with great joy and gratitude. It gave her peace. Mom Veronica was the the strongest, bravest, most admirable woman I have ever known. Her courage inspires our lives and she is greatly missed. Mom will be buried at Miramar National Cemetery with daughter Cynthia March 25 at 1130am. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and pray for us.
