December 8, 1966 - October 8, 2020
On Thursday, October 8, 2020, Maria Cynthia Alzona Dulin, lovingly called Cherry, passed away at the age of 53. Cherry was born December 8, 1966, on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, in dela Paz, Biñan, Laguna, Philippines to Frank and Corazon Dulin. She graduated from David H. Hickman High School, Columbia, Missouri. She attended Cleveland Chiropractic College (Class of 1995) and, soon after, worked as a chiropractor at St. Luke’s Rehab Center in National City, CA. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN) degree from Kaplan University, graduating summa cum laude in 2016. She was a member of the Delta Tau Honor Society, 1992 and Golden Key International Honor Society, 2016. As a nurse, she taught at Kaplan University, later, Brightwood College. In 2019, she became a Behavioral Health Care Facilitator at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, CA. Cherry lived a life inspired by her Catholic faith. She had been active at St. Mary Catholic Church since 1986; she played the piano and sang with the choir. She enjoyed playing piano since she was a child and brought joy to family members and church events with her talent. She generously loved her family (including extended family members) and cherished every moment with each one of them. She dispensed her wisdom and shared her talents. At work, be they her patients or students, she lovingly helped everyone she encountered and made their lives better by giving them the personal attention they needed. She made it a point to form good relationships with her co-workers; and was a good and loyal friend. She had an unquestioning and unshakeable faith; and had a wholesome and sometimes self-deprecating sense of humor that remained unchanged throughout her life. Cherry was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Crisostomo and Angelina (Protacio) Alzona; and paternal grandparents, Jesus and Theodora (Hingco) Dulin. She is survived by her parents, Franklin and Corazon; siblings Paul, Pamela, and Joseph; sister-in-law, Caroline; brother-in-law, Ben; her beloved nephew, James; uncles, aunts and cousins. A funeral mass celebrated by Fr. Scott Herrera will be held on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church at 1170 S. Broadway, Escondido, California. Fr. Ed Bernardino, of the Church of the Resurrection, concelebrates. The family has entrusted Alhiser-Comer Mortuary with the arrangements. A Celebration of Life and Public Viewing is scheduled for October 18, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 South Broadway, Escondido, California 92025.
