August 5, 1954 - October 12, 2020
Karen Lee Pernu peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 12, 2020. Karen was born August 05, 1954 in Porterville, CA where she spent most of her life until attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. After graduating, Karen moved to the East coast for a few years and then moved to Escondido and eventually to Vista, CA where she retired in 2019. Karen had a long and successful career in IT eventually ending up as a Senior Software Developer at SDG&E in San Diego. All those who worked with her knew that she was an especially devoted employee and could always be counted on. She was admired for her integrity in workmanship, friendship and faith. She was known by her coworkers for her sweet, generous, kind spirit and her legendary “Christmas Goodie Plates”. She would make between 30-40 of these platters for coworkers, family and friends every Christmas. Karen was a faithful servant to Jesus Christ and spent over 40 years attending services and gleefully singing in the choir at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido. She loved her church and choir more than anything else. Her absolute faith, trust and love for her Lord was beyond measure. Karen was affectionately known as “Auntie Karen”. She was an avid reader, mostly Harlequin Romances, and she could sit and read for hours at a time. She enjoyed basically two television channels, Hallmark and Lifetime, with an occasional rerun of “Murder She Wrote” or “Columbo”, which the family would lovingly tease her about. She also enjoyed playing computer games, Candy Crush was her favorite! She loved to travel and was fortunate to go on many trips and cruises with her family and long-time friend Barbara Guthrie. Karen was an accomplished, competitive Ball room dancer, earning many trophies for the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Escondido. Karen is preceded in death by her father and mother, Gene and Wilha Pernu and her brother, Daryl Pernu. Survivors include her sister and brother in law, Greg and Kristi Weaver, her sister in law, Dedee Pernu, her niece and husband Ian and Brittni King, nephew and his wife, Corey and Melissa Weaver, nephew Lucas Pernu, niece Sara Beth Pernu, great niece Melrose Weaver and great nephew Milo King. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Faith Community Church and a graveside service will be held at the Porterville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Emmanuel Faith Community Church, Escondido, CA.
