Filippa Biundo
October 16, 1927 - October 7, 2017
Filippa “Phyllis” Biundo Filippa Biundo passed away in Escondido on Saturday, October 7, 2017 surrounded by her family. Filippa was born on October 16, 1927 in Sicily, Italy. After immigrating to America and beginning her family in Detroit, she started using her talented skills as a Seamstress and custom dress maker. In 1960, the family moved to California to begin their new life in Escondido. She continued using her skills as a seamstress and started her own business, The Sewing Room. Filippa ran the operations for The Sewing Room for over 30 years serving thousands of customers. Her biggest customer was the Joor Muffler man whom she made a custom Santa Claus suit for; it was the hit of Escondido! Filippa cherished and honored her Italian roots by serving in the local Italian-American club. It was a great social club for local Italian-Americans to gather, discuss the day issues, talk about the homeland and, of course, cook up some great Italian food. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and was able to see parts of Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Lake Tahoe. Filippa’s true passion was her family. Anytime or anywhere she would be there for any of her children or grandchildren. Her heart was full of love for not only her family, but for everyone she met. She knew of no bounds of love for everyone. Filippa is survived by brothers, Matthew Cucinella of Escondido, CA and Joe Cucinella of Modesto, CA.; loving daughter, Nancy (Dave) Spinks of Escondido; loving son, Peter (Jan) Biundo of San Diego; Four grandchildren: Tiffany, Matthew, Lindsey, and Evan, and four great-grandchildren: Aiden, Owen, Addison, and Connor. She will be greatly missed!
