Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by three sisters and a brother; he is also survived by his wife, Murlene; his children, Rick (Colleen), Myron II (Patty) and Michele; adopted daughter, Sky; stepchildren, Marilyn (Monty), William and Barry (Clarissa); and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Freda; and many fond friends, clients and students.

Called "Buddy" very early on, Bud spent his childhood and attended school in the Niagra, Wisconsin area before entering the U.S. Navy in 1945. He went on to spend 23 years of loyal service to his country ending a savvy Navy Corpsman, retiring as a Chief in 1968. He was one of the few that capably earned the moniker "Doc". Barely missing the second World War, he ended up serving several tours of duty in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, and having earlier settled in Poway, CA (in 1958), he went into the real estate business in the local area - Bud Monroe & Associates. He and his longtime cohorts - Elton Nixon, Larry Quate, Walt Kenny - were quickly entrenched amongst the Poway "movers and shakers" of the time. Through the years he was involved in many community activities and gave his time and money to numerous causes. He was kindly referred to as Mr. Poway on many occasions and was in fact one of the original owners of one of the very first "tract homes' that were built in Poway (on Powers Road).

Better late than never, Bud obtained an MBA degree from National University (in its early days) while in his fifties. Which then allowed him to teach real estate and associated courses at Palomar College. He then became a lifetime credentialed Palomar College instructor with countless students of his having since reaped many a financial reward having learned and used his real estate insight and knowledge. Bud was one of the original authors of the bill for a state license board for real estate appraisers. He then obtained and held one of the first real estate appraisal licenses issued under such law.

While the last few years took a toll on his health, it was surely his own relentless energy coupled with the dedicated care by his loyal wife of 25 years, Murlene, that pushed him through it. And it is that energy that will be sorely missed by those who knew him most. Not suprisingly, Bud loved to work and spent much of his efforts doing "whatever it took' for such endeavors. But also loved to talk politics, sports and business, go to Padres and Chargers games, gamble, sport fish, and play all manner of games, especially Scrabble. Bud had a wonderful sense of humor, and it has been argued he could recite just about every joke he'd ever been told. Even the not-so-funny one could become funny in his re-telling. Bud referred to his own life as "a charmed life," and was satisfied that he'd been and done just about all he'd ever hoped to be and do - he truly had no regrets. And while not an especially religious man, he surely had faith that his creator would judge him but only fairly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud's name to the Elizabeth Hospice, www.elizabethhospice.
