Penny is survived by her children, Kate, John and Jim; grandchildren, Garrett, Sarah, Kelly, and Lauren; and sister, Helen Sands of Prescott, Arizona.

Penny Latham was born in Banning California and had three siblings. She was a graduate of Imperial High School and Brawley Junior College and was employed in the accounting department of the Irrigation District at Imperial Headquarters. While volunteering at the USO during World War II, Penny met Harold C. Ponder. They married on June 22, 1947 and settled in Escondido.

Penny was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church since 1947 serving on the Atlar Guild, St. Margaret's Guild, teaching Sunday school and volunteering in the church Thrift Shop. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, holding various offices. Penny was involved in her children's activities and worked at Economy Glass Company, the family business. She and her husband also supported many charities. An avid reader, Penny also enjoyed the outdoors, crafts, music, correspondence and being with family and friends. She had an abundant sense of humor which engaged everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.
